Your sentence is correct. The 'y' is there to replace "salon" so that you don't have to repeat 'salon' twice in the same sentence. Without the 'y', you would have to say: J'aime bien le salon parce que je peux regarder la télé dans le salon'.
Btw, the sentence means: I like the living room because I can watch TV there.
