How can you free file with w2's and a 1099 with a bunch of write offs?

I usually just go to HRblock and free file, but this year is different. I have a 1099 and w2s. I could not find a place to enter a 1099-misc.

Me and the wife usually make less than 25k and have 2 kids. so we always get the full amount back and earned income credit. The 1099 i speak of can be completely written off with mileage and tool expenses @ 50 cents a mile.

who offers a free file service that includes this?

how do i go about paying social security and medicare, ect...since i was a contractor and never had any taxes taken out? is it automatic when i file?, do they (Govt) automatically pay them?

Freefile sites don't include self employment (your 1099). You can have them done free at a VITA or TCE site in your area - see http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=10762...

When you file, you'll pay self employment tax that will come to a little over 14% of the 1099 amount - that pays for the social security and medicare.

Contact a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic

Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) represent low income taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, assist taxpayers in audits, appeals and collection disputes and can help taxpayers respond to IRS notices and to correct account problems.

If you are a low income taxpayer who cannot afford professional tax assistance or if you speak English as a second language and need help understanding you tax rights and responsibilities, you may qualify for help from a LITC that provides free or nominal cost assistance.

Find A Free Online File Company

Free File companies have their own eligibility criteria, but none offer Free File to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of more than $58,000.

Other eligibility criteria may include your: age, state, eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, and military status.

Check the company's website for details because the companies' offers may differ. For example, some companies charge a fee for state tax returns and some may not support a particular form you need to file.

Remember to begin your Free File return on IRS.gov or you may be charged a fee or asked to buy additional products and services.

If, after browsing the list of companies, you need help go to Help Me Find a Free File Company.

Alternately, print out blank forms and draft the return.

The go to free file and pick the fillable forms option.

This lets you efile for free (any income), but it doesn't do much of the math.

PS, why would you take a 1099-Misc gig if the mileage was more than what you made? I hate losing money when I'm trying to make it.

if your SchC is $400 or less you do not have to file and pay the self employment tax on your 1099 income--you state your profit will be nil due to mileage and tools

and the free service is for simple returns like 1040EZ which yours is not
