Why is the United States the greatest nation on earth?

Mostly because our citizens enjoy many freedoms that unlike here or in Canada, Australia, Western Europe, etc.

Another is because of the economic giant that the US is, the wealth of the citizens considering the average one makes around $50,000 a year.

Few countries have ever stood as long as the US has without a totally reformed government. An advanced military that we take pride in (bless our troops!)

Many opportunities compared to world standards.

As for traveling overseas, well to give you an idea of how many, roughly 80% of us don't have passports. So most don't travel outside of it, maybe because they fear something they shouldn't or because the vastness and diversity of our nation offers many travel destinations. But there are still the 20% or about 65 million that have and many say that we have a very high standard of living.

There are many Americans that disagree, but they can be very hypercriticall and are often influenced by media that it is terrible, same goes for the ones that think it is in a landslide contest the best by being brainwashed by media like the anti ones have. On the international stage there are many who disagree but they have not traveled here and the only judgment most have is bias media.

I'm interested what you found lacking in England, Italy, Germany etc that wasn't lacking in the states. All of those countries are just as rich, democratic and well developed as the states. All of us have friendly people and diverse culture. In Europe we have a deeper history and heritage and some countries have played a bigger part in the development of the modern world than the USA has. Most of the free world also have well trained proffesional militaries, France and Britain have Nuclear weapons. In almost every aspect they are equal to the states and yet some people in the USA like to look down on them because they have a bigger country and in the unlikely event of a war they would probably win. I like americans and I like the country but I don't think it really is any better than the rest of the free world. Personally I'm British and I'd say I've got just as much reason to be proud of my island nation as you do to be proud of yours, if not more.(if you want to argue about that go onto my profile and email me) The difference is that Brits have a tendency to be modest about it whereas alot of yanks go around shouting that they have 'the greatest country in the world', 'live in the land of the free' and maintain 'the only surviving superpower' to make themselves feel above people from other countries.

I've lived in Canada and Ireland for some periods of time, but it's hard to give a good comparative with the entire world. I personally believe America is the best because it strives to be the best. Sure, we stumble at times, but we're always back on our feet and stronger than ever.

That attitude just isn't present in Europe and elsewhere. Pity.

I've been to other countries and I believe the U.S. is better because I prefer the U.S. over the other countries I've visted. It's nothing against them, I just like my homeland.
