I have an article on ehow that is getting a lot of success and I feel the payments I'm receiving are unfair.
If I decide to take this article down and post in on my own site will Google consider it duplicate content and will it not rank as well or not be put on Google's search because it is duplicate????
Will I get a penalty? How do I go about this without getting the duplicate content issue??? I will give away 50 points to the best, most helpful answer.
Thank you.

No one can give you an exact answer because Google won't tell us what algorithm they use. So we all guess. My guess is that you will not be penalized because you have honestly removed it from one site and posted it to another. Especially since you are "upgrading" from a site with lots of content to a site with more-limited content (more-specific).
The newspaper said that one guy made $100,000 for his explanation of how to install a sprinkler system in a residential yard without professional help. You will have to figure out a way to get paid for your idea on your own site. Visitors won't pay a subscription fee unless they know what you are offering.
