What elements are present in the sun?

I've heard there have been 67 elements detected in the sun. I've read there are 92 natural elements on Earth. Why the disparity? Is it just because any other elements are too deep in the Sun's interior to be detected, or have they been "cast off" or broken down?

Something I came across lately said that certain heavier elements such as gold and platinum are not created until the star actually goes supernova.

"Is it just because any other elements are too deep in the Sun's interior to be detected"

That would be my guess. The Sun and the Earth formed from the same heavy-element-debris-seeded hydrogen cloud, so any elements present on Earth would also be present in the Sun; the heavier the element, the nearer the core.

The current temperature at the Sun's core is sufficient merely for hydrogen fusion. Helium fusion requires atleast five times its current temperature. I don't know offhand what temperatures would be required for the spontaneous fission of heavy elements, but I don't think the Sun has them.

I can't say for certain, though. I'd have to research the subject a little before you can quote me.
