Question about emergency brake on car....?

While I am driving my car & my emergency brake is off the brake light on my dash is still on. Does anyone know why or how I can turn it off? Am I hurting my car by still driving it. It seems to drive as if it is off, but I am confused about the light. Advice?

Also, I kind of flickers off and on so could it still be more than just an emergency brake problem?

Sounds like your sensor is out of whack. If you are sure the brake is off, you shouldn't hurt anything by driving with the light on. If your car is a newer, totally computerized, idiot proof car, then it may try to self adjust to its perception of a faulty emergency brake.

When you can, have a mechanic check it out for you.

The same light could also indicate a problem with the brake hydraulic system or low brake fluid.
