Will Obama's "Sputnik Moment" mean anything for space exploration?

Obama shut down NASA's Constellation project for a manned Mars mission---setting back the goal by at least two decades---ending thousands of NASA jobs. Seriously doubt Obama has any plans to reverse his decision and allow NASA to full throttle proceed with further scientific space exploration.

Obama's "Sputnik Moment" speech was a pure example of empty rhetoric---a classic tactic of baseless politicians. You take what he actually says, reading between what's actually said---and you come up w/ a translation something like this: "We need to see America's spirit return to it's bold, brave, hard working and ultimately successful days----when the U.S. faced and conquered the challenges of space exploration and had us safely send men to the moon and back home safely."

And Obama HOPES you don't reach the factual realization: THAT long ago ( and forgotten ) America is sadly, sharply different than TODAY'S America. Given the whopping and darkly depressing 3 year economic meltdown we now wake up to these days---hope is ever faint that we will ever see positively glorious days as a economically healthy United States.

Obama is NOT JFK or Ronald Regan: He proved that tonight; what he DID manage to prove only confirms he will NOT get my 2012 vote.

No. All it means is he's going to make sure even more Wal*Marts get built so people can continue to get paid pennies and buy even more Chinese garbage. He's already destroyed our space exploration program. How does it feel to live in an America with no means of putting a man in space? After the last shuttle flight... that's it! No more capability to place astronauts in orbit (or beyond), and no plans to do so in the near future.

He's shot down the previous moron of a presidents goals of sending people to Mars. As much as that angers me, I still kinda like Obama. At least he's 10,000,000 times better than that slippery-between-the-ears moron George Bush. But then again, a teacup poodle would be a better president than Bush. I can't believe he got elected to two terms. OH YEAH, that's right! He didn't!

Empty rhetoric doesn't advance space exploration or the economy.
