Some of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood had form for this, Rossetti slept with some of his muses/models (and married one), as did a contemporary, William Morris (his wife, Jane Burden had an affair with Rossetti).

No, not necessarily! A muse could be someone with intense beauty or wisdom etc. Someone the artist admired...
In many circumstances the artist was probably in love with the woman and yes as you said sleeping with them! They weren't just simply someone who was sleeping with an artist, there were deep emotions and feelings within it! :)
