Vector Marketing Scam?

I am in serious need of a second job. I have been doing massive amounts of searching and every time I search the name Vector Marketing appears. I even Google searched it and one of the article listings was the Vector Marketing scam. I did read it, so needless to say I am a little uneasy. Does anyone know about this company or know of anyone who has or is working for them?

No matter what you were told, it is a 100% commission, independent contractor type job.

That means you pay all your taxes, expenses, pay for gas to drive hours to appointments, buy your business cards, paperwork, pay a huge cell phone bill for all the calls to set up the appointments, pay the company for "leads" and buy your own display box of knives.

IF you sell something, you are suppose to be paid something like $15. Whether or not that $15 covers the gas and time it took for you to book that appointment and spend a couple of hours talking about the knives is up to you.

If you google "vector cutco scam" you will find hundreds of posts of people who felt they were lied to about the actual pay they could really receive, how long it took to find someone to sell to and lied to about how hard it is to actually sell the knives, especially during this world-wide Great Recession.

Vector is NOT a scam by any means. It is not the most traditional job where you sit behind a counter like zombie and do something that any human being on the planet can do. I am a college student and I am 19 years old and I have been with Vector for 19 months. I also heard about the job because I was recommended by my friend. I didn't expect the call, and my friend didn't tell me anything, so at first I was cautious, however after the interview I got the position and since then I have never looked back. It's a guaranteed rate of pay and it varies across the country, my office does $20 per appointment, also there is no cold calling or canvassing and especially no door to door. So if you actually WORK at it and FOLLOW the program you will do well. Also in general keep an open mind and don't take advice from people that have gone through 1 day of training like "mom to be 2 my Princess 81909". If you have an interview and you are curious about going, just go, you have nothing to lose.

    Vector marketing sells knives.

While not an out-and-out scam, it does require you to buy a "demo set". They get you as a customer right there and then $140 worth.

You then try and sell to friends and family. You'll find you quickly run out of friends and family. You may even start losing friends - and maybe family. You will sell little or nothing during this time.

Vector pays you nothing unless you sell, and even then they keep the lion's share of the proceeds.

So, they have absolutely no risk at all. That is why they advertise so heavily, and they hire EVERYONE who applies, qualified or not. ( because these guys become their customer with the demo set purchase , and anything they do after that is gravy for the company )

Make your decision accordingly. Check the archives for this topic to read about what some have gone through.

I cannot comment specifically on that company but with any sort of direct sales company your success all comes down to how many friends, family members, coworkers or neighbors are going to be interested in buying what you are selling. I don't care if it's knives, skincare, cleaning products, vitamins, weight loss pills, tupperware or anything else. Look at what the company is selling and ask yourself - How many people do I know who are willing to spend $xx on these type of items?

Cold calling doesn't work - have you ever bought something, especially something over $50, from someone who randomly showed up at your door or cold called you? I personally haven't. The only thing I've ever bought door to door is Girl Scout cookies, and that's only because I love the Thin Mints. I don't even open the door if I don't know the person there, and if someone calls trying to sell something I hang up - as do 95% of people.

Also how many hours of legwork are you willing to put in unpaid, because as the post above also points out, you have to buy your "starter kit" upfront, then don't make any money until you actually sell something, and even then you are only making a % of that sale. So you might have to sell 5-6 sets of whatever you are selling before you actually recoup the costs of your demo set. It might take you 2 months to get those 5-6 sales. Can you really go without income for that long?

You know not to do this.

Also google Vector Marketing followed by the words rip-off, complaint, bbb.org, review,

Visit your employment / unemployment office and look for jobs there on their board.

And keep an eye open in the newspapers classifieds.

I hope that you are aware that filling applications online is a waste of time...
