What is your favorite fish and why?

just a fun question for all you aquarists.

for example, i absolutely love pygmy corydoras. they're like miniature hand-held vacuums when they eat, they look like they're hovering midwater, and they've got tons of personality. they're also really hardy little fish!

Are you talking about favorite aquarium fish or just favorite fish in general? 'Cause I honestly have both.

My favorite aquarium fish is actually tied between two.

First one is the Tiger oscar, Astronotus ocellatus...

It's been a few years since I've had one, but when the time comes, I want an oscar again. A big, mean, and belligerent bull male, one that I can associate with myself. It's nice to have a fish with an attitude with that of the fish's keeper. It would be nice to watch him explore his home, and move stuff around the way HE wants and likes it. It would be nice to feed him live food, and watch him chase, eat, and devour his prey... to watch him obliterate a crawdad would be awesome. It would be nice to watch him explore his surroundings and contemplate his various moves. It would be nice to just have him interact with me and be nice, then try to eat everyone else that isn't me alive.

The second one is the Speckled peacock bass, Cichla temensis...

These cichlids are the largest of all cichlids. The International Game Fish Association All Tackle World Record is 3 feet, 4 inches long with a weight of 28 pounds. In their homeland, they're considered a prized game fish for their extrememe fighting qualities. And, because I'm a diehard, hard-to-the-core, through-'n-through bass fisherman, I find fish that have a reputation of damaging and sometimes even destroying fishing tackle when striking a lure an absolute plus. That's completely awesome. They're also a beautiful fish with dark rosettes instead of stripes, light speckles and impressive shades of bright green, orange, blue and gold. In my opinion, the bigger and older they are, the more gorgeous they are, especially when the big males get that big pronounced hump on their foreheads.

Now... my All-Time favorite fish is the Florida-strain largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides floridanus.

You're probably wondering why, right? Well... I'm almost 27 years old, and I have been chasing these fish for the past 25 years. Yeah, since I was 2. Like I said above, I'm a diehard, hard-to-the-core, through-'n-through bass fisherman.

Mollies and Platies work for any freshwater community tank. They are hardy(I have a molly who has survived 3 diseases that killed most of my other fish). Both are also very nice looking, they have a simple but not boring figure and come in many colors and shapes. I really like swordtails, many kinds of tetras, and guppies. Those are also good looking and easy to take care of, the tetras come in a huge variety of shapes sizes and colors. I also really like octocycolus catsish. The are a mixture of sucker fish and catfish and are small, cute and good eaters, although they are a little harder to take care of.

Out of the three species I have owned [betas, goldfish, and guppies] I love how goldfish can get so big, but I hate the mess they make. Betas are very pretty, but a tad boring. I think my favorite would have to be the guppies because they are wild crazy reproducers! IIt just fascinates me[: I also love shiny, colorful fish like neon tetras[:

Help me out? Gupgup might be prego, can't tell!

I am also madly in love with pygmy corydoryas. Mine were aquired to add bottom feeders to a betta tank and they wound up stealing my heart from the betta. I also love how they sit on the big leaves of the plants in my tank like little birds.
