Is it mandatory for a Muslim man to give his children his first name as his middle name? ?

Please explain if this is cultural or Islamic. I named my son after my husband and gave him a different middle name. Now my husband wants to change our sons middle name to his first name. Is this mandatory in Islam? For all your children ? Please explain thanks

It is not mandatory. There is no mention of this in the Hadith or Quran. It is in the Arab culture that they name it like that. such as Muhammad Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulmutalib Al- Hashimi.

I used this name just to explain that how it works

Mohammad is the name of the child and Bin translates in son so that meas the name is Mohammad son of Abdullah son of Abdulmutalib and the Al-Hashim is the family name. There is really no concept of muslim name in the arabian culture. This practice is mostly in Pakistan or south Asian subcontinent. Which has no religious precedence.. i Hope this will clear your husbands mind. Prophet PBUH only said that give your children good Islamic names. And There is really no middle name given to a child in the Arabian society.

I believe that's definitely cultural. In the country my family's from, my dad's first name was supposed to be my last name. There was no rule for middle names according to my family's culture. I don't have a middle name but my brother does. The naming system is more cultural.

My brothers have their own names and they dont have middle names. My dad has his own name and we are all Muslims.. So I think its Culture. Hope that helps :)
