I mean there is little symbols like envelopes and other things in the address book. what do they mean?

Go ahead and double click that little ! and you will see that it opens and IM window to that person. Just like if you double click the little envelope icon by other names, it will take you to Yahoo Mail and after you sign in, if you are not signed in already, it will open a compose email window to that person.

it doesn't mean anything really it's just added style or flavor to their messenger name....like TOM! or I can do T0M!!
