Best Answers: 10 points vs 1 point. Why the difference?

I just checked in after a fairly long hiatus and found that several old responses had recently been voted Best Answer. Two notifications read "Thumbs-up..." for 1 point, and three read "Your answer was picked..." for 10 points. As best I can recall, all my previous Best Answers were 10 pointers. I'm confused; have the rules changed? I don't find anything in the Help pages on this subject. Anybody out there know?

Examples:

# Thumbs-up for your best answer! 1 point (5 days ago)

# Your answer was picked as best! 10 points (3 weeks ago)

It doesn't matter whether the asker chooses your answer as best or whether you get the BA by community voting: in both cases you get 10 points for the BA. You also get 1 additional point each for every thumb up you received for your answer - up to 50 get counted. The points for thumbs up only get added when your answer is chosen as BA, you may even get additional TU after the question is closed already, and every time you get one more point.

Umm... Oh! Some people forget to choose a best answer, so then it goes into voting. If you had answered a question that went into voting, other users vote for a best answer. If your answer is chose as best through voting you get only 1 point. If the user who asked the question chooses though, you get 10 points. I hope I made sense there.

    hope I helped
