Looking to spend 3 weeks in Morocco with my family...?

Any suggestions for the cities to visit, activities to do and places to rent (hotels or otherwise) and their rates? And above all, how much things cost there?

Thanks!

    Hello,

All depends your Budget for Hotels. But Riad Dar Saad is a very good riad, with swimming and all services necessary :

Or you can book a riad in marrakech with this list (list by rates, monuments...) :

you need to tell more for us to help, like what you guys prefer and how many kids are going with you, how old they are, etc.

i spent some 24 days in morocco last november with my wife. we visited 12 cities where we spent 2-3 nights on bigger cities, 1 night for smaller towns. they all have their own characters and styles. we visited the historical cities of Fes / Meknes / Marrakech / Rabat, the seaside towns of Essouria, Agadir, Tangier, Asilah, the desert and river valleys in the south / southeast. there are lots of activities to do, you will not find it boring, and you will definitely feel you have not enough time to try all.

by the way, things in morocco is not expensive if you come from the western world. cheap hotels will cost around 40euro per double room though you can also find very expensive ones. standard day menu will cost 8-12 euro at a medium range restaurant. the petit taxis can only travel in the city areas and you should never pay more than 20 dirham (approx 2 euro) per trip. mind you, if you pay euro, they will definitely charge you more because they think you have a lot to spend. if you pay in dirham, you can always confirm the price before you start the journey. i found most of them are willing to use the meter, or charge at the 'standard rate' in that particular city.

ibis is a reasonable option but not all of them are convenient. i found them located near the train stations, not always the place of interest, e.g. the medina.

since i travel with my wife only, we only booked the hotel for the landing city (at ibis!!). for the other stops, we would arrive during daytime and find and bargain. might not work if your kids are small or if you prefer everything planned and fixed ahead.

i can tell you more if you can ask more specific questions. good luck!!

It depends on what you want to see.

Historically, my opinion would be Fez and Meknes. There are wonderful mosques to see in Fez and the university and library. The 2 medias are fascinating. Hotels in the nouvelle ville are about 50 Euros a night for 2 with breakfast.

Meknes has the masoleum of Moulay Ismail, the palace golf, the granary, wonderful souks, again hotels are about 40 Euros with breakfast.

Asilah, along the Atlantic Coast just south of Tanger, there are holiday apartments. The palace in the medina is worth a visit. This small city is very calm, clean and pretty.

Tanger itself is a must. So many people just go south to Marrakech and miss all the real Maroc.

Rabat is wonderfull, too, easy to get round, very clean and nice..

The Ibis hotels are always well placed and clean in most of the Moroccan cities, and are not expensive. It is cheaper to book online.

One of the best guides to Morocco is THE ROUGH GUIDE. It is accurate, unlike many of the others.

The south like Todra is worth a visit. Its like going back 1000years.

Buses are very cheap form of Transport in this magnificent country. Enjoy!!!
