Do I have a computer virus from hell?
Ok, get this. I downloaded a TV show the other day and since then I have had nothing but nightmares with my computer. It is a brand spanking new Acer with Intel i5 and Windows 7.
It is so friggin slow. Something is terribly wrong. It takes forever to do anything.
So I ran Avast, AdAware, CCleaner Spybot Search and Destroy. What do all these have in common? They all freeze about 10% through. The just freeze the whole computer, shut it down. The only programs that do this are protection programs. everything else is slow but doesn't crash.
I even went to Hijack This! to get some info and even that warned me that it could not access Host files so some info would be missing.
If you email me I will email you the Hijack This log, since it is too big to put here. HELP
Hey guys, quick update. Tried Safe Mode. Still freezes. Same problem. Can't send it to the manufacturer. I live in Europe and we are still in the Dark Ages for Customer Service...

Restart your computer, during boot press the F8 key continually and enter safe mode w/networking next download and install Malwarebytes http://download.cnet.com/malwarebytes-anti-malware... and update the software. Run Malwarebytes in safe mode and remove the items that it finds to be malware. Restart your computer and see if your problem has cleared up. You can also run a full virus scan using the other software that you have installed. Running in safemode should allow the programs to complete the scan and subsequently remove the problem. If the above fails to help with your issue then I would call customer support for your computer. Since it is new they will most likely not charge you to troubleshoot and repair your computer if the problem is an hardware issue. If the cause of your problem is a virus they may charge you, it depends on the manufacturer.
UPDATE: Try tech support, If it is not a hardware issue I believe that the best option is a system recovery since you can't operate in safe mode. http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Ace... Here is a link with the instructions. Good luck.

Try running an anti-virus in safe mode that way it may get past the 10% threshold. But I suggest that you do a fresh reinstall of your operating system and immediately update the OS to avoid this problem. Install an anti virus and a firewall for protection and set a password for admin activities so that malicious programs cannot install other programs without your consent. Create another user id for Internet browsing and other routine activities.
I prefer fresh installation because the system performance doesn't aleays become the same after an infection.
