I have black Adobe Reader screen which I can't get rid of any ideas please?

I'm using Windows Vista and the Adobe reader page is black, it has the usual file commands at the top but they are not operative, right clicking close on the icon at the bottom of the screen is also inactive. Trying to unistall it tells me that it is operative and I have to close it to uninstall. Any help would be appreciated before I throw the laptop out of the window!!!

Update:

Thanks for replying so promptly, I haven't opened or tried to open any PDF files, the black screen came up whilst I was printing a document and it is a permanent fixture and has been for 3 days. I can't minimise, maximise, uninstall or close it. I have tried uninstalling in safe mode but the same message close it before uninstalling. Do you think if I can find a PDF file to open the black screen will disappear? I appreciate your trying to help me

Update 2:

Brayden I have tried to open a PDF file and I can't, I get another black screen.

Update 3:

Thanks Amontef it worked, brilliant advice!!

Have you tried opening your task manager to see if the process appears there? Make sure to click on the Processes tab, and if you find it, just click end process.

If that does not work, you can try to update your adobe, because older versions may cause this problem you are having.

The site below may help you in this process.

    Hope this helps.

When you open Adobe Reader the screen is black. Once you click on a PDF file, the file will appear in the black screen's place.
