RECOVERY ACT: No, I'm not for *some* companies being favored by our government. Btw, there were no jobs saved or created. Take a look at the real unemployment numbers.
AFFORDABLE CARE ACT: This is a nightmare that is going to raise costs for everyone, limit freedom and access to health care and eventually collapse the American health care system.
WALL STREET REFORM: Limiting freedom. There is no call for dictating how businesses operate. There is nothing government can do to make a business more efficient, only less. Our current economic crisis is a result of regulations on the banking industry, not a lack thereof.
ENDING COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAQ: Not just on its face. Obama is following Bush's timeline, which as long as our objectives are being met is a responsible policy.
NUCLEAR ARMS CONTROL: This is just plain stupid. Why would we self impose a constraint on our ability to defend ourselves, under any circumstances?
MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUTS: Again, Obama continues Bush policy, and we applaud him. Of course, you do realize he extended tax cuts for the rich too, right?
CREDIT CARD REFORM: More stupid regulations that only increase the operating costs of credit card companies. If you don't know what the fine print says and you sign your name anyway, why should I have sympathy for you? Why should I pay higher premiums because now my credit card company has to eat the cost of changing all their documentation to spell everything out in kindergartner terms for you?
FAIR PAY FOR WOMEN: Do discrimination laws not already exist? What's the point of this?
REFORMING STUDENT LENDING: Your education is not my responsibility. Get a job, get a private loan, or do what I did--serve your country and earn your education benefits.
REPEALING DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL: All in favor of the law, against its rushed implementation that's left a ton of unanswered policy questions that will now take years to unf*ck in the court system.

1. To expensive, mostly a huge payback for those who toughed out the bush years.
2. Yet to be seen but the premise of forcing healthy people to buy a product they don't need so that the unhealthy can pay a fraction of their own costs is just nuts. This is going to hurt in the long run.
3. We'll see. I'm not sure that it will really accomplish the desired goals. congress rarely gets it right.
4. I'm happy to see us out of Iraq and it was nice of him to do it according to the Bush established timeline. We should pull out of Afganistan too. bigger problems at home.
5. I can support the arms control treaty.
6. My taxes are the same..... and I'm middle class. what exactly was the 'cut'?
7. My cards have all dropped my limits, closed my accounts or proposed annual fees. Thats with an 820 credit score. This did not help me at all.
8. Did you know that unmarried women with no kids make 8% more than their male counterparts for the same job? Guess this law is not actually there to make it fair.
9. This was a COMPLETE government takeover of the student loan market. It will cost the tax payers billions for absolutely no gain.
10. I'm fine with this one too.

increasing GDP by as much as 4.5 percent in the 2nd quarter of 2010; and provided tax credits to 95 percent

ROFL. We spent 787B using your BOGUS numbers thats 262,000 PER JOB.
Also we "increased" the GDP by as much as 4.5 % ROFL. OK genius, the US GDP is 14T We spent 787B which should have had a return of 5.6% if you spent all the money.
AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
Costs went up, taxes have gone up to the tune of 500B/ CBO. also its not paid for so taxes will go up again in at year 11. Doesnt do anything to address the problem of overconsumption that the president identifed at the most costly problem, actually it exaserbates it.
WALL STREET REFORM
Slush fund for bailouts, great plan. How about we just let them fail.
ENDING COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAQ
Troops still there, drawdown is the same as Bush's plan
NUCLEAR ARMS CONTROL
Gave away the farm (cant do missile defense, which would have rendered nukes pretty much useless) and got nothing in return. Yay.
MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUTS
Bush gave the same cuts.
CREDIT CARD REFORM
And Interest rates skyrocketed. Whoo hooo
I'm done, you're too stupid to understand any of this so I'm pretty much wasting my time.

Most people don't dislike the laws because Obama signed them. They dislike Obama because he signed those laws. Some people believe that it is not a legitimate function of the government to regulate the national economy, mandate the purchase of healthcare, spend more money it has, and act in a way not EXPLICITLY allowed in the Constitution. Just because Bush is guilty of some of this doesn't mean many conservatives support such laws. Bush wasn't terribly popular among Republicans either.

Ending combat in Iraq and Don't ask, don't tell. That's all I'm for because most of the rest will cost too much of borrowed money that we will never pay back.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
The "recovery act" was a complete waste of money and should be repealed
The "affordable care act" is completely unconstitutional and should be repealed
"Nuclear arms control" is dangerous, especially given the way China is arming
"Don't Ask Don't Tell" was a very reasonable compromise and should not have been repealed

1. Even if the "Recovery Act saved jobs (and there is no data supporting that) it did so at a cost of 1 trillion $ that we will never be able to pay back. It would have been much cheaper to just pay all of these people 100K outright. THey would have been happier and we wouldnt be as broke.
2. Wall Street Reform:
I would like to ask you why it is that you think Fannie and Freddie were EXCLUDED form the FInance Reform Bill when they were the ones that caused the problem in the first place. How can you be ok with that when this is obviously (a) corruption and (b) . evidence that this is just another ineffective bill.
Also, I am wondering if you can explain to me why you think it is ok for the top 50 financial institutions many of whom DID NOT take any TARP money, and if they did, paid it back....why is it ok for those financial instiutions to have to pay penalites to the federal government TO THIS DAY> Pleas eexplain that to me
3. Nuclear Arms Control? ANy of us who understand and study history knows EXACTLY what that means. America abides by the agreement while everyone else continues accumulating and building their arsenal! DUH!!!!!
4. Middle Class Tax cuts: The FUNNY thins is, we have all been told by these same dems for years that only the RICH got tax cuts under GWB. Now all of a sudden, it seems that not only did the middle class actually get tax cuts, but that they were so meaningful and effective that Obama had to negotiatte big time and piss off a lot of people just so that he could keep the law.
Did you really think we would all forget that you LIED????
4. STUDENT LOANS: ARE YOU SERIOUS???? Are you ignorant as to what Obama has done with interest rates on student loans??? He has turned these over to the fed govt and interesdt rates are now going to go from 4% and below to more than 10%. This is part of what is to pay for OBamacare. How is it that you dont know this??????
to answer your q, i want these things repealed because they suck regardless of who the idiot was that signed this stuff
ADD: @Divided- please show me some evidence. I would LOVE to see data about all of these jobs that were saved if it actually exists....
As far as cost, this bill was sold to the American people as something that needed to be passed IMMEDIATELY to save jobs and keep unemployment UNDER 8%! SO RIGHT THERE IT FAIELD MISERABLY! But regardless of how much was actually spent on saving jobs, the rest can not be accessed for any reason. Actually, I cant even believe you are holding out the fact that only 320 million was spent to save jobs as a GOOD thing!!!!! Where in the hell did the rest of the money go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- ?Lv 71 decade ago
Not because Obama signed them into law but rather because most of them are bad legislation that spends money we don't have, restricts rights or places unreasonable burdens on citizens..
Anyone who thinks that the Recovery Act created or saved 3.3 million jobs when the unemployment rate rose over 50% after its inception is a true believer and will never listen to reason..

Keep on dreaming and hope for change.
