The NARA has service records, they are not public records, only the Veteran or their next of kin can get copies. There are some databases online at NARA. Also they had a fire in 1973 that destroyed about 80% of records of Army, Army Air Corp. early Air Force between the years of WWI to late 50's early 60's. Links to help:
