This is a tough one to answer. It depends on the individual student and academic standards vary from school to school.
When I was in school, I did better in classes where I thought my classmates were smarter than me. It pushed me to work harder.
I pushed myself just beyond my comfort zone and I feel it really paid off. But on the other hand, you don't want to overwhelm yourself. Only you can make that call.

Girl, this looks GREAT. I think you have a great chance of making it into the schools you want to. I wish you didn't limit yourself to just a few classes senior year though, because although there's a minimum amount of credits to graduate, you could've went for more credits, which means credit for college, which means you could skip a couple of unnecessary classes. Besides that, your extracurricular looks great, and you have a great deal of stuff to offer and show. CSULA shouldn't be that extremely hard to get into also, since it's near UCLA, and UCLA is the more known school so students tend to apply there more. You don't have to worry about the C's in freshmen year either because colleges usually just look at your academic GPA for 10th and 11th grade. ALSO, what would be really smart to do is that if you have a specific university that you REALLY want to get into, find the contact of the admin. person who usually does the reading and decisions for the applications. Email them and ask them random questions and talk to them to show that you're interested, and at the same time it gives them something to remember you by, so when they read your application they'll be all, "Hey, I remember this person!" and that really does give you the advantage over other applicants. GOOD LUCK!

Not at all! I took three AP classes my sophomore year and I became an AP scholar with all threes on the tests. If you're smart and ready to work, go for it.
It will make you a much better student in the long run and more eligible for better colleges.
It's also a great opportunity for college credit.

Hmm. As a sophomore...I would say it's fine. Just make sure you prioritize and finish all of your homework and study for tests. Do not procrastinate! You'll do fine, don't worry.
