Are you guys ready for this?
So, if it is legally ok for the U.S. Government to require you to buy a private insurance policy from a company in the name of "Regulating Interstate Commerce" what's next? You must now buy only American made cars because it hurts Interstate Commerce to not? You must buy Broccoli because it's healthy and good for you and it would hurt interstate commerce if no one bought broccoli? How much more should we worry about government influence into our day to day lives?
@Namaste, Ron D., Justagrandma, J & C H. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/08/health/policy/08...
There, it's not YOUTUBE, or any other sources mentioned. It's the NY Times.
@Justagrandma. You think it's going to get better with the enforcement of the health care bill? Guess where the loop holes are? Companies do not have to provide health care for 'contracted employees' IE. What about the companies that have waivers? You think the waivers are going to go away?
"Oh they're just temporary waivers, that's all." Really? How about some other things that have been "Temporary" Just a for instance, not sure if you guys have ever heard of the Temporary Toll-Booth on Highway 400 in GA. It was only 'Temporary' from 1992 until the bill was paid. And then it was only 'Temporary' until the officials voted to make it more 'temporary' by extending the expiration date.
So who hurts here in the end? The evil companies that don't provide health care for employee's as mandated by law?
@Ron D. and J&C H Oye, you guys sure got hung up on the broccoli thing huh? I was using that as an example of how broad they are using the Interstate Commerce Clause. Since you don't understand the broadness, I'll explain a little further.
Stating that it is constitutional to MANDATE insurance, siting Regulation of Interstate Commerce as a reason, broadens the scope of what could fall under Interstate Commerce. Interstate Commerce, while it does alot of things, the context in which the judge used to deem the Health Reform law constitutional, Interstate Commerce was used to regulate PRICES of items from state to state. It was used to help desegregation, it was used to break monopolies. It was NOT used to force people to buy specific items from specific people.
So using broccoli as an example fits into my example of how Mandating Insurance Coverage would be like mandating Broccoli consumption.
and here, another link, this one gives mention of broccoli. But hey, this one also argu
hmmm looks like I may have been cut off in mid sentance... and I don't remember the rest of that train of thought, so yeah....

Nope, just get rid of your body and you don't have to buy insurance.
You know, if you get into an accident with no insurance, either I have to pay for you, or you will spend the rest of your life in debt, but the hospital will be paid from the state or from you.
Its just selfish irresponsibility to put that burden on the people who pay taxes.
The slippery slope arguments are always faulty because no one is interested in broccoli for legal purposes.
I could even see that argument if it weren't for the fact that our health care system is already twice as expensive as anyone elses, and fewer people are covered.

Can you prove any of this stuff you are spouting or did you just read it at the supermarket checkout line?
I just don't see any vegetable mentioned. Could you point it out for me.
In the name of regulating interstate commerce. Sounds like a lot of Bible Thumpers I know. Pick out what you want to scare people with and disregard the rest. Where is it about the "must buy American made cars? Fail on you. too bad.
By the way, how much research did you have to do to lamely support your assertions.

References please. Legit, not National Enquirer or YOUTUBE. I think you may need to worry about other things, such as your prescription seems to have expired.
Hung up on it, you started it by giving nor verifiable quotes and when challanged, you attack. Good way to make your point.
Source(s): The NY TIMES says a law, not in effect, yet to be enacted may require MOST. Read the whole thing before becoming paranoid. Where is the Broccoli part. Missed that. - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
