Yes, you can bring a laptop, however, it must be scanned separately from the rest of your carry-on stuff. Probably because it could be easily disguised as a bomb. And you can use it on the plane as long as all wireless-connection-stuff on it is turned off.
You can bring your purse.
I'm not sure about jewelry, as I am a guy, but I'd assume so - I mean, as long as it's not really sharp/dangerous looking.
Yes, you can bring an iPod and other electronics, such as personal video games and such. In fact, if you're bringing electronics, put them in your carry on. Most airports don't like them in your check-in, since they could be a bomb. However, don't bring a lot of electronics with you in the first place! I had my cell phone, iPod, Nintendo DS, 2 Wii Remotes, my watch, and my pedometer, and they thoroughly checked my carry-on.
And as for books, they're no problem at all.
And yeah, you do need to take your laptop and liquids out.
Generally speaking, for a typical airport and typical flight, you should be at the airport an hour before your flight.
This is what I've learned through my times flying. The security is strict, but basically, it's for everyone's safety. Have a great flight!

Yes you can bring a laptop, but when going through security u need to take it out of your bag. you are allowed 1 carry-on and one Personal item (like a purse or backpack). Jewelry is fine. mp3's and books can be brought on, and they don't care if it is in your purse or your bag. You should get to the airport an hour before your flight (so leave home like an hour and a half to two hours before your flight) so that you have time to check in. Good luck :)

You can bring your laptop. Generally, security will ask you to take it out of the bag when you put it through the x-ray scanner, and then you can put it back.
You can bring a purse... I guess. If it's big it counts as a carry-on. If it were small, then you could put it in your carry on bag. Generally, you're allowed one carry on bag.
Yes, you're allowed to bring jewelry, but be prepared to take it off for the security checkpoint.
Yes, you can bring your iPod and books.
Yes you need to take your laptop out.
For an international flight, if you are not checked in online from before (you can check in online using your e-ticket number or even passport number), you should leave yourself enough time to leave your bag and go through security. You should be at the airport two hours before the departure
If you cannot check in from home, you should really come (for an international flight) 3 to 4 hours before departure.
For domestic flights, you should arrive between an hour before departure if you check in at home, and between an hour and a half and two hours if you have to check in at the airport.
Best of luck

Wow you did great looking up your info! The answer to all your questions is YES. You are allowed one carry-on bag plus your purse. You should get to the airport no later than 1 hr prior to flight time for domestic flights, 2 hours for international unless the airline has instructed you otherwise. You may want to allow more time than the standard if you are flying at a busy time of the day. Many airlines have online check-in up to 24 hours prior to flight, this speeds up the check-in process at the airport. You need only check bags when you arrive then proceed to security. Have a great flight!

Your laptop can go in the carry-on bag.
Most airlines allow one carry-on and one personal item such as a purse.
Jewelry is fine. Take it off before you go through security.
You can put whatever you want in your purse.
Your laptop and your liquid items will have to be taken out and placed separately in the plastic bin used in security.
It depends on the airport but ~3 ahead of take-off is usually sufficient.

Yes, so you just bring your laptop. It's always been like that and it always most likely will stay that way, too
