Is David Stern Racist?

2 years in a row, he picks a white dude over more deserving players as a replacement for an injured All-Star. Last year, it was David Lee and this year it's Kevin Love. I won't nitpick the David Lee selection last season because the East lacks big men depth but picking Kevin Love over LaMarcus Aldridge and Zach Randolph, who's team have better records and are in playoff contention in a competitive Western Conference?

It's a bunch of B/S when players like them along with Monta, Odom, and and David West are left off the team. What ever happened to team success playing a major role in determining a player's All-Star status? Even the Western Conference coaches knew better than corporate money grubber David Stern. If you ask me, the team success criteria sounds more like a barrier to entry unless you're white.

Update:

In case no one notice, the Minnesota Timberwolves have the 2nd worst record in the entire NBA.

Update 2:

Andy, prove me wrong then? Have you ever seen a colored player, who happened to play for one of the worst teams in the NBA, ever get selected for an All-Star game in recent memory?

Update 3:

Adrian, if you want to talk about stats, I can pull up players with even better stats than Love, get snubbed year after year because their team sucks d**key's balls. Please excuse my French.

Update 4:

Hot Rod, I'm not fighting for Monta as much as I'm just trying to validate why players Randolph and Aldridge who are also having career years get snubbed when the All-Star game is also about team record. Why else would the Boston Celtics get 4 players selected for the All-Star game? I feel bad for Odom because he's never been selected for an All-Star game and he's a big reason why the Lakers are able to continue their success without Bynum. Aldridge stepped up big time with Portland's best player (Roy) not even contributing that much this year and keeping them in the playoff race. Go look at Randolph stats and tell me they're not similar to Love? The only difference is 3's but IMO, team success should weight in more in determining a player's All-Star status over one extra category. It has always been that way, unless David Stern is making the calls.

Update 5:

avidnesskingsfan, the rest of the All-Star team is selected partially (starters voted in) by fans while the rest of the roster are filled in by each conference selected coaches. If David Stern were picking out an All-Star lineup for the league, we may very well end up warping back to the 1950's era.

Update 6:

BigNeil, Blake Griffin isn't the only player 20/10 + guy putting up similar stats to K-Love. In fact, Zach Randolph is also putting similar stats but the only difference is, his team is actually winning and Love's team isn't. The reason why Blake made the team is because of all the highlight reels he puts up on a nightly basis, which happens to be entertainment material for the All-Star game. It's not that hard to average 20/10 on a bottom feeding team like Minnesota since Al Jefferson has been able to do the same his first 2 years in Minney. But unlike Love, A-Jeff didn't have the commissioner to hook him up with an All-Star pass card.

Update 7:

nas88car300 Carl E wins !!!!!!, if what you're saying is true then Tim Duncan shouldn't have made the All-Star team this year since his stats do not come close to any of the big men selected in the West for the All-Star game. Winning does have it's privileges.

Update 8:

Raymond Kattoula, Al Jefferson can avg a double double for the lowly Timberwolves. Even Darko Milicic who's struggle with a couple of different teams is able to revive his career in Minnesota. When you play for bad teams, the opportunity do well is there, which is why rarely do good players on bad teams make the All-Star game......... unless you're white and David Stern is determining who makes it.

i totally agree with you man and all the other people answering here that don't agree are either dumb, naive or stubborn minded!

jus like you said, should have def been Randolph or Aldrige! both of whom are averaging the same amount of pts but with jus a few rebounds left except the main real difference is that they are neck and neck for the last playoff spot while KLove is in the worse team in the West and just as bad as the Cavs! Randolph was player of the month for jan and Aldridge is basically the franchise player after continuing to lead his team when he was suppose to be the 3rd option next to fallout Brandon Roy and Oden. How can these 2 guys not get it over Love when their stats are not as far from Love's who obviously is getting good stats cuz the rest of his team sucks and no one else can get it going! if its really about stats the what happened to all the other good guys from the years before that got snubbed because of being in a bad team! its totally contradicting and the only reasonable explanation is that David Stern did it just because KLove is more popular out of the 3 and also.. the white guy out of the 3! with Stern's already bad reputation from the previous Referee fraud scandal, it only makes sense that he's always been about whatever it takes to sell more tickets and get more people to continue to watch the NBA!

wow.. so stern just happens to pick a player who is white with the spot that's remaining and he is racist? what an unbelievable logic.

timberwolves have the worst record but that isn't what determines an all star. an all star game showcases the best players in the league. kevin love has been the best rebounder of the league this season and he really deserves to be there. not to mention how many points he can average

you are also being hypocritical with your logic.. you're saying it's a shame how he got in over Monte Ellis. well, the golden state warriors don't really have such a good record either. which to me implies a bit of favoritism aswell.

well don't get me wrong.. i am a big fan of Aldridge and Odom (odom was my favorite player when he played for the heat at one point..) but you have to understand that some of the performances kevin love has demonstrated are that of Moses Malone. he is just doing so well that leaving him off would be just as difficult as leaving guys like odom and aldridge out. i just don't know if it's wise to bring racism into the debate.. but who knows i guess.

No, Stern's no longer a racist. a good distance from it. Any inquiry into his entire existence and his acquaintances, together with his occupation in the previous he grew to grow to be the commissioner, might placed that to take a seat back. this is not racist to put in a dress code. even however i do no longer in my view trust the dress code, this is his call and there is not any longer something incorrect with finding expert, relatively because of the fact the gamers are interior the international's authentic basketball league. and there is not any longer something that asserts once you're black you're immediately going to placed on dishevelled clothing and/ or outsized rings. maximum African- individuals (like maximum individuals usually) understand to dress professionally whilst at artwork or whilst representing their employers. As for the referee mess, I have not have been given any concept how somebody might tie that to race. there is only no connection between the two. the reason Stern cracks down on every physique criticizing the officiating is easy: He does not want human beings thinking video games are fastened on account that could desire to smash the league. The Donaghy incidents are very unfavourable in of themselves, yet no longer deadly because of the fact the league itself wasn't in on any of the fixes. yet whilst there is 5 greater Donaghy's available, or if it comes out that the league orchastrates who wins and loses, then human beings are not going to care anymore.

Are you kidding, Kevin Love leads the league in Rebounds, and leads the West in combined stats, Blake Griffin is the only Forward close to the numbers he's putting up. He earned this spot, and should've been chosen by the public, or coaches already, it shouldn't have been up to Stern.

Someone's racist, but it isn't Stern.

first of all your thinking of howard stern.

secend of all Kevin love is the defensive rebound leader. he is number 1 on the charts with 15.6 defensive rebounds per game. (dwight howard is secend with 13.7)

K love also has the longest double double streak in the history of the nba so he truly deserves to be in the all star game.

also 90% of the players in the allstar game are NOT white so how can you say that david stern is racist??

  • 1 decade ago
