Help me steer away from candy at birthday party?

I'm a real sweet tooth, and right now I'm on a "no sugar" diet. Not literally no sugar, but I'm not allowed to eat candy or cakes etc. etc. You get the point. I'm going to my aunt's birthday party next saturday, and there will definitely be served cake. When I'm at parties and such, I have trouble keeping my hands off sweet stuff. It's not so hard when I'm just at home. I really don't want to blow my sugar break. Any tips on how to stop myself from eating cake?

Don't go to the party hungry and bring your own food. Nibble on fruits like grapes, raisins, apple chunks, so you're still getting a sugar fix.

also, why not just let yourself have a small amount, rather than risking giving in totally, it's your aunts birthday so why not? if you enjoy a normal portion of cake, you'll be proud of yourself that you were able to stop but still celebrate with everyone else. and if you do end up having a lot of stuff, at least its at a birthday party where its EXPECTED and everyone feels the same way, than doing it at home for no reason.

Fill up on the main course foods so you won't want the sugar! Or you could try healthier dessert options like Skinny Cow ice cream.
