Under what circumstances would a researcher use a questionnaire vs an interview to collect data?

Sources differ in the explanation of a survey, interview and data, Also they differ in what data is collected and what ways are best to collect data. Are there good websites to view that are easier to understand this material? I am writing a paper for a college level course and any information would help.

Some content lends itself well to questionaires. Questionaires offer easily quantifiable results, but will often miss the underlying meaning of the responses. Unfortunately, most of the interesting issues are best examined in interviews, but the results are not quantifiable so they are often disregarded.

This is the sort of thing that would be frequently discussed in methods in psychology and social psychology.
