Working and going to school?

I am attending a local college in the fall and hoped to be able to keep my part time job since my student loan isn't really enough to cover it (had initially hoped not to have to work)

. I basically work anywhere from 12-16 hours a week at a grocery store about half hour away from my home and 40 minutes from the college. I've been trying to figure out how to manage both without going broke. I've talked to students who have taken my course before and they've told me there is usually a day in the week where you don't have classes (other than weekends) and classes end at 2:30.

This is a little bit frustrating because I always have to work the weekends, it is non negotiable since I'm in a union. I don't know what my boss expects me to be able to work. I had thought maybe working the weekends and one night a week (that is pretty much my schedule now). But I'm worried they'll have a problem with me if I ask for too many days to be off. So I wouldn't want to work on my one day off of school, which leaves 4 days left. And I would really like some guaranteed homework time which I would guess at 2 nights a week. That means I can tell her that I can only work the weekends and 2 nights in the week.

I'm scared that she won't like that because it is asking for a lot of days off. (3 days off no matter what). But then on my side that means I'll be working at least one of those nights regardless and hopefully the other night can go to doing something social, like hanging out with my boyfriend when he gets off work. (that's another issue. he's working full time where he gets off at 6pm and has weekends off- i work weekends and if i do work that night 6 is right in the middle of my shift)

Do employers expect college students to have limited schedules like this? I know other college kids at work don't ask for this much time off and they are in heavier courses. I just don't want to end up losing this job since I need the money to keep my cell phone, pay for the bus, go out every once in a while and be able to buy gifts for my family.

It is possible. I think the amount of hours you have set are perfect, and a lot of employers know how a college student and working a job can be tough so they will understand, it just might not be what they are looking for. I have a friend who is in college and works at a grocery store as well. And she has to take care of a dog. She doesn't work a lot so it works out, just enough to make a bit of cash. Just make sure you don't get too overwhelmed because the important thing is your education. You don't want bad grades.

working and going to school is tough. i went to school full time and worked full time for three years. it is downright exhausting, but my best advice is: do what you have to do to make it work. this won't be forever, and if you finish college and have a career you love the long sleepless days will sooooo be worth it. good luck to you!

Sounds like you need to make some decisions in your life and so you need to know God, your spiritual Father --- who is love -- then pray about your life. He can help you live a better life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a rich and full life. Also, you need to know God's Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God's blessing and forgiveness, as you live God's way. We need to know and follow God in this life so we can go to heaven after we die, and so we can get God's help now. Not following God leads to hell, eternal suffering. Instead, there is an important prayer to pray to become a born again Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:

"Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don't want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever so I can receive God's forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven after I die. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus' name. Amen."

After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church like Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran.

Also, get into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God's will for your life. The Bible is God's instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die. The church can also get you baptized and prayed for. You can pray for yourself daily too. God guide your life.
