I did a set in wood for a trailer awhile ago. I followed more or less the procedure of the web reference below with the following exceptions:

The height of my stakes are 18 inches above the trailer floor. (smaller trailer 4 X 8 foot, 1000 pd. capacity). Two 1 X 6 slates, even at the top with about 3" space to the next one and another 3" space to the trailer floor.

I used shorter bolts to attach the side boards to the upright stakes by using a 1 inch Forster bit (on both sides) countersink (3/8" galvanized bolts with washer, locking washer) to make both sides flush with wood (no scratches on load and it won't catch your clothes walking too close to the trailer).

I attached corners at the top with 1/16" thick X 4"W X 6"L aluminum angle to greatly stiffen the whole thing. I got these cut for me at a scrap yard near by. I attached these with clevis pins (1 for each side of the aluminum angle) to the wood for easy side removal of the sides.

All wood was pressure treated lumber. It doesn't mention it, but I bolted the stakes through the stake pocket to the trailer frame for durability and strength. It has served me very well.

    Have fun with it.
