Can cats dream when they sleep?

This may seem like a silly question, but I am curious if anyone knows the answer. I was just sitting here on the couch and my cat is sleeping beside me. She suddenly meows for no reason in her sleep. I am wondering if she was having a dream or if it is possible for cats to dream.

We will never actually know the answer to that question, but it sure seems like a yes, doesn't it? I've known lots of dogs who did the same thing. (No, they didn't 'meow,' but they did whimper and twitch their feet and/or facial muscles.) If a person was doing the same thing, and I woke the person and asked, "were you having a dream?" I would totally expect the person to say yes. (Don't ask me how I know!)

Cats have subconscious minds like human beings do. So its very in all threat, if not shown, that cats dream. in the adventure that your cat became into experiencing issues or has been under pressure in any way, his or her subconscious ideas could be attempting to tell them something. they might have remained a time whilst they the place scared, or lost a combat, and so on and that they wakened because of the fact it became into too genuine. then you definately could have had an threat to witness their worry or different emotion yet won't be able to interpret it. Or they could be scared and want some comforting!

Yes, there is evidence that they have REM sleep which is the type of sleep that humans have when they dream so it is likely that cats do dream.

I believe they do and dogs...i've seen cats twitching whiskers while sleeping and dogs kick their legs about.
