Subtract both sides by 2k and then, divide both sides by 3:
81 - 2k + 2k = 5k - 2k
81 = 3k
k = 81/3
k = 27

K is a variable just as X is don't let it confuse you, here are the steps
81+2k=5k
81+2k - 2k =5k -2k
81 = 3k
81/3 = 3k/3
27 = k
plug it back in to get
81 + 54 = 135

5k = 81+2k
(LHS) ... (RHS)
When we bring 2k to the left hand side, its sign will change to minus..
5k - 2k = 81
we can subtract 5k and 2k as they both have common variable k
so.. 3k = 81
now shifting 3 to the other side of equal sign, we will get the value of k... 3k means 3 is multiplying with k; so when you shift the 3 to the right hand side, it will turn into division...
k = 81/3
k = 27
