The enemy's great/powerful attack hindered a part of those things.
"quarum" is describing "rerum" - both are feminine plural accusative. "Magnum" can't describe "partem" to make majority because the former is masculine while the latter is feminine. I agree that "quarum" is ambiguous, but without context, 'those' seemed to be a good fit.
