If the whole universe is much larger than the visible universe, can't that account for "missing mass"?

    The interesting thing is that there may be plenty of it *within* our sight radius.

    No, because density is a factor in the idea of "missing mass". The missing mass must be here, not farther than all the galaxies we can see.
