Is Pedigree dog chow better than Purina dog chow?

I have a doberman and just want to know which one would be better for him.

they are both pretty much garbage. Like the other posts have said. A lot of people stick to feeding garbage food because they think it's cheaper. In the long run you don't save that much money. If you look at the recommended feeding guidelines, you'll see that you don't need to feed as much of the better foods, because they are more filling and not full of garbage. Also, cheap foods use cheap ingredients, including wheat and corn and brewers rice. Wheat allergies are common for some breeds and you can spend all sorts of money on vet bills and medications dealing with allergies.

www.dogfoodanalysis.com is a good website that compares foods based on the quality of their ingredients. While you can talk to your vet about foods, be warned, they are often not well informed. The nutrition training they get in school is taught by a Hill's Science Diet representative and they will push this food. It's really not very good quality. the Dog food analysis website gives it only 1 star out of 6 and will tell you why.

Raw is a great way to go. I've been feeding raw for 4 years. You do have to do the research to make sure you are feeding proper ratios and providing them with everything they need, but My vet says she's never seen 3 dogs with such clean teeth (two of them are almost 7 years old) and they are a healthy weight and have great coats. They also have a lot of energy and are not acting their age!

    good luck!

Pedigree does not have a specific brand called "Dog Chow" to my knowledge as Purina does.

However, when comparing regular Purina Dog Chow with Pedigree Vitality, they are very similar.

Purina has a slightly lower fat content, and poultry listed before "meat and bone meal"

So in the end Purina dog Chow may be slightly better, but neither contain the ingredients that a dog should be eating

That's like asking if McDonald's is healthier than Burger King or Wendy's. They're all crap.

Bad foods: Purina, Pedigree, Kibbles n Bits, Ol Roy, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet

Why: They're all filled with corn, grains, wheat, soy, ash, fillers, and other crap, NOT good quality meat sources.

Good foods: Innova, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold, Canidae.

My dobe does like pedrigree and purina. Unfortunately he has allergies and can't have yellow or red food dye. I feed him purina one lamb, purina one sensitive systems or purina one beyond. When my boy is not screaming, crying, going hairless or back and forth vet visits, or scratching like crazy its a blessing. I also pump yummi chummies wild alaskan salmon oil on his food. The purina and salmon oil came with him. When i changed to other foods that have dye his system went BONKERS. Flea med is comfortis because i have cats too. He's allergic to fleas too. I get natures recipe too but that's more$$. The reason for the attitude because the less or no grains is better nutrition for your dog. U never said what breed of dogs u r feeding. Don't forget yearly vaccinations, flea/tick meds, and heartworm meds.

Neither are very good. Both have a lot of ash, cereal and filler in them, and very little actual meat (what's listed on the ingredients as "animal/meat derivative" or something similar is not meat... it can be anything from feathers to chicken feet/beaks).

Nothing you can buy in the supermarket/corner shop is going to be the best quality. Try something from your pet shop, although be careful not to get too high a protein feed if your dog is not terribly active.

All that said, of course lots of people do feed their dogs Pedigree, and they live fine healthy lives. It's your choice entirely, but I recommend the pet shop brands over the supermarket ones.

It depends on which purina. They surprisingly came out with a OK food that's better than pedigree.

    http://www.purinaonebeyond.com/default.aspx?dcmp=k...

I still don't recommend it. There are better foods out there like Orijen, Blue buffalo, Canidae, Taste of the wild, Timberwolf, By nature and natures variety.

Raw is best, then home cooked. If you want to feed raw or home cooked do research first.

Pedigree is like Lucky Charms. IMHO, Purina is better, but for a little extra money, Purina ONE would be alot better.
