What Aussie or Kiwi beer would you recommend. . .?

The 2011 NRL season is approaching and I am looking for recommendations for the most appropriate Australian and/or New Zealand beers to imbibe whilst watching footy. I live in the midwestern part of the America and have access to a fairly good liquor store which stocks many imported beers.

So, let's have a go at it and see what you all come up with - Cheers mates!

PS. If you want to, tell me which beer best represents your footy club!

Update:

Not that it matters much when it comes to beer, I watch most matches streamed live at 3 or 4 AM in my part of the world!

VB, Carlton Draught or Coopers for mine.

As far as my team goes, North Queensland, XXXX.

@Bill, Melbourne Bitter, mate? It's been years since I've come across someone else that drink that.

I can't say too much about Australian beer, but I can rate a few NZ beer products.

The most important thing to remember is: Do not touch "Export Gold". It tastes like urine.

Also where possible you should avoid Steinlager, it's not much better. Waikato Draught and Canterbury Draught are okay if you're desperate but should not be a first choice product.

Lion Red has been a sponsor of NZ league for many years now and is not a bad product. Very drinkable, very good taste. I'd rate it the 3rd best beer in NZ.

Tui has had some rather interesting advertising over recent years, most notably their Yeah Right! billboards http://www.google.co.nz/images?hl=en&biw=1680&bih=... but their beer lives up to the hype. It's a very good product, my 2nd favourite beer. I will always remember about 4 years ago, my flatmates constructed a 'coffee' table by sticking together about 300 empty Tui bottles. It was a masterpiece.

But my beer of choice is Speights. It tastes really good, which is probably the most important thing in a beer. You get some interesting sporting trivia on the underside of the bottlecaps too. It's quite a good price for beer, not too cheap, but definitely not too expensive.

Personally cant stand the taste of Lion Red although us warriors do have the hearts of lions haha. Steinlager grows on you after about 6 as you're already on your way and will take anything alcoholic by then. TEDS (tooheys extra drys) are a good standard beer but one that will always do the job and put hairs on your chest and represents rugby league being that it's for the mans man is good ol' VB. Many a time has dad picked up a slab and I've pinched a few as it is sure to do the trick. And if you're looking for one kiwis and aussies alike can appreciate, go the Bintang, yea booiiii.

Source(s): I forget! due to plenty of alcomahol consumption.

The only beer that travels the best and chills best is VB in a can. TED's are great but they need to be drunk within 2 months of bottling.

I was a partial to DB in a can in NZ but I've only drank it in NZ. The other NZ beauty is Speights but not after 3 months.

Although I agree with Joeys rating of the beers he mentioned, I haven't touched that low grade stuff in awhile (exception of Summit-Joey). Steinlager Pure is the best option kinda like our better version of Heineken. Be careful there is a massive difference between (original) Steinlager and the Steinlager Pure variety.

I drink Steinlager Pure, Heineken, Stella Artois, Oranjeboom (dutch drink).

Kiwis seem to contemplate every physique born in New Zealand as kiwi regardless of in the event that they oppose it. One occasion is Russell Crowe... you have probable gained an Australian accessory by using now, in case you intend on staying in Australia, you're australian.

I like Boags, either full strength or light, and Tooheys New.

My father always said 'There's no such thing as a bad beer, just that some are better than others'.

    Hey mate,

My first answer , i couldnt let ya get this one wrong :P

As for personal favourite all time beer its gotta be TEDs Tooheys Extra dry, its a heavy beer with a crisp taste, for an american probably closest to taste is Maby Millers.

However, recently I have been buying boxs of GREAT NORTHERN, its a North Queensland beer, heavy, crisp.. You may have trouble getting them in the US because they are literally established scince now (is thier logo), Because they are a north Queensland beer, footy team wise would be Cowboys NthQld.

For those that say XXXX or XXXX Bitter- for Brisbane broncos- dont listen to them, XXXX is a **** beer.

    Adam in Aus :)

    Enjoy the Season.
