Scholars have spent a lot of time searching for the lost continent of Atlantis. But Atlantis was never just a continent or large island. Plato’s references to Atlantis describe an empire. And empires are always more than a single landmass. Rome’s empire extended over parts of three continents, as did Alexander the Great’s.

Plato’s writings refer to a war between the kings of Atlantis and the city of Athens (and it’s allies). Atlantis "dwelt outside the Pillars of Hercules (the Strait of Gibraltar). And we all know where Athens sits. That is quite a long distance for two adversaries, unless one of them is a land hungry empire. And Atlantis was, extending it’s reach all the way to Egypt.

Atlantis existed during the last ice age. Because of the lowered sea level, the island of Spartel, which was sizable then, has gained attention lately as being a possible Atlantis site. It sits just outside the Strait of Gibraltar, and could have been the cultural center where Atlantis began it’s empire. The location is perfect, since it allows trade with the Mediterranean, the Iberian Peninsula, and North Africa. All three areas became at some point, part of the empire, and help to explain the great land area attributed to Atlantis.

In that there are so many ancient stories about both Atlantis and Lemuria, I am convinced that they both existed. In fact, the geological record of soil comparisons lead me to believe that these stories are about the splitting of the Super-Continents when North and South America separated from Europe and Africa. They slowly, over the eons, moved apart and Ancient man was aware of this having happened. Thus he told the stories over and over through the verbal historical record, which was embellished each time it was told.

The island that held Minoa is still around. It was a very beautiful city that was rich and ahead of it's time. But it wasn't super high tech. it was merely more advanced than the rest of the area. It was destroyed by a volcano and spread the destruction story around the Northern Asia, Southern Europe countries. History reports the blast was huge and that it was felt thousands of miles away. And sent tidal waves across the sea. So yes it WAS real.

  • Yes, Atlantis did exist once, it was located in the Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles east of Atlanta. Sadly, it is gone now. Its citizens were killed by the oil spill.

yes it existed but not life going on underwater is impossible. the idea came from part of egypt that sank and is buried below sea. part of cleopatra's palace is buried beneath there. interesting.
