How many BTUs are needed for a gas fireplace in a 16 X 18 room ?

Winters here can get down to the single digits.

    It depends on your insulation, your windows, how often you are opening the door, etc. Assuming you have perfect insulation, weathershield double pained windows, and you never open your doors, and this is your sole source of heat, you need about 15,000 BTU. Personally I would go with 20,000.

    The more imperfections in the house's build and the amount of times you leave doors and windows open dictate the number, 15 or 20k should be enough.
