Question about claiming mileage?
I have a band and perform nearly every Friday and Saturday. I usually drive over 100 miles each weekend. This is the first year I have made enough to really owe taxes (hobby loss in other years). Can I claim my mileage on my Sch C?
I have a full time job.

driving to and from where you work is commuting and never deductible

You can't deduct commuting mileage. Your first trip to work in the morning and your last trip home are commuting.
For example, you drive to your regular job, then to the gig, then back home. The mileage from your regular job to the gig is deductible. The mileage home is not.
It doesn't matter if you drive 100 miles away unless you stay overnight. Then you might be able to take travel deductions.

As long as the income is reported, the expenses required to generate that income are a deduction. make you that you keep detailed mileage logs for back-up. The IRS loves to pick on this deduction.
