Relocating to Charlotte, NC area. Please give info?

I would like to check areas that are not far from the city that is affordable, decent, and multicultural. Dont want to be in a noisey or busy area. Also would like a way to check the crime rate in the areas and also rent. Any known sites where I can find an apartment would be beneficial. Please advise. I am thinking of relocating at years end for a new chapter in my life. No ghettos, no trailers, no design districts, no gay districts. Just a place to live that is quiet and peaceful
