My 3rd generation iPod Touch doesn't support all of IOS 4 features?
The apple website says that iPod touch 3rd generation supports IOS 4.2 features (scroll to bottom) and I have thoroughly analyzed this page and all statements with asterisks give no indication that my iPod doesn't fully support all features of IOS 4.2. I am currently running this software on my Ipod but many of the best features (background wallpaper, multitasking, etc. aren't available. But I can create application folders. PLEASE HELP!!! I really want these awesome features!!!!
It is an 8 gigabyte BUT the back of it clearly says 3rd generation and the firmware says 3rd generation.
I've heard that 8 gigabyte can't support these features. Is there a chance that later software versions will "fix" this problem.

The sad truth is that 3rd generation 8 gigabytes cant support multitasking, wallpapers, or any of that cool stuff. Only 32gig and above can, and 4th generation ipods. Sorry!
there actually is a way to get these features, by jailbreaking your ipod, but if you don't know what your doing, its slighty risky.

The 8GB iPod touch was never a 3rd generation model. Apple kept it in the market during the 3rd generation cycle to lower the price point of the iPod touch.
iOS 4.0 & greater is not fully supported on the 2nd generation iPod touch.
No, Apple will not "fix" this problem. Actually iOS 4.2.1 is the last firmware to be released for the 2nd generation iPod touch & iPhone 3G.
Back before the iPod touch 4th generation was released on Apple.com it clearly stated that the 8GB model was a 2nd generation not a 3rd generation.

If you have a 8 gb or 16 gb its a second generation witch you probably have.
Do what i did jailbreak it. Only 32 gb and 64 gb are 3rd generations anything lower than a 32 gb is a second generation sorry.
Source(s): http://greenpois0n.com/ If you want to jailbreak use this site. make sure you have 4.2.1 if you want to jailbreak with this. - deiseLv 45 years ago
iOS 4.2 would not help Multitasking or Homescreen Backgrounds or the hot "discover my iPod" characteristic, yet maximum different good factors of iOS 4.2 will paintings with your specific 3g iPod touch
