Best software for chatting inside a lan network?

Any of you guys know about softwares for chatting with people inside lan netowk? How usefull is it?

Update:

I donot mean the internet messengers,i just want people to chat within a local network

    Try Trillian

    Trillian is like having Yahoo Messenger, MSN Live (MSN Messenger), AOL Messenger all combined into one. It creates a list showing the icon for whatever messenger program they use all in one list and you can communicate with all without having to keep changing from one messenger to another.

    Or if you don't want to download anything or are in a place where they don't allow you to install any software (school, library, internet cafe) they try Meebo,com (http://www.meebo.com)/ or Kool IM.com (http://www.koolim.com)/ similar thing but don't need to download any thing for it to work.
