How big is my doberman going to be?
At 4 months the vet said he would be 100lbs. He's AKC registered. His parents(male at 100lbs and female at 80lbs) are pretty good sized. He's now 9 months and only weights 60lbs. Is he going to be any bigger? Is he too thin? We can kind of see his ribs a little but dobermans are thin by design.Any suggestions of how big he may possibly be? Will he go through a grouth spur?
Sorry for the incorrect wording on my initial entry. When he was 4 months old he weighed 45lbs and the vet told me he would weigh 100lbs when fully grown.
Thanks

According to the AKC breed standard a male Doberman should be about 27 inches tall at the shoulder. They don't give a specific weight and you should shoot for ideal body condition as opposed to a particular body weight. I would caution against trying to put weight on a large breed puppy too quickly or too fast. They can be prone to a host of joint problems involving the hips and elbows and rapid growth through over feeding can make things worse.
You should be able to feel the ribs and you should be able to see an indentation behind his rib cage when viewed from above and a tuck when viewed from the side. Take a look at the body condition score chart link below for help in determining ideal body condition. If he's underweight there may be a medical reason for it and a visit to the vet can be helpful there.
He will continue to grow and fill out until at least 18 months or age, but the most rapid growth occurs earlier between three and nine months after which growth gradually tapers off.

Both his parents were too heavy for the breed so no surprise if he is going to be oversized as well. You should be able to see his ribs a bit. That is normal and at a health weight for this breed. At 9 months old he has more or less reached his full height but will continues to put on muscle until 2 to 2.5 years old. Its unlikely he will reach 100lbs at a healthy weight but he will be heavier than he is now. At 4 months old it in is nothing more than a guess as to his mature weight. Different lines grow at different rates

If he is suppose to weigh 100 pounds at 4 months then when he reaches 12 months he should be about 400 pounds and at full growth say 2 years he should be well over 600 pounds.
Fin a new vet cause the one you have is a quack.
At 4 months he should be about 30-40 pounds. Because at full growth they only weigh round 75-90 pounds for a female and a male 75-100 pounds.

At 4 months, no dog especially a doberman, should be 100lbs. Don't expect him to be over 100 full grown. Get a new vet, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Just wait and see, no one can tell. He'll be full grown at 2yrs
