1. Leader of the majority/plurality party - The party leadership gives the PM built-in parliamentary support for his/her policy initiatives and help protect him/her from the opposition parties' attacks
2. Control over the Cabinet - Determines who is allowed to serve as cabinet ministers, the portfolios they'll have, and how much discretion they can practice in their role without the PM's interference
3. De facto appointment powers - Convention has the Governor General act on the advice of the PM on who to appoint to the Cabinet, the Senate, the Supreme Court, the next Gov. General, and others. This allows the PM to shape other parts of government that are not even under his/her authority
4. Unrivaled influence over what bills are passed - Most bills passed by Parliament are Government bills, not private member's bills. Since the PM controls the Government and his/her party whips, he/she has more influence than any other member as to what bills Parliament will consider and which ones are passed
5. Bully pulpit of the position - The title and trappings of being the PM carries with it a prestige amongst the public that is hard for political opponents to duplicate/counter
6. No term limits - The PM can remain in power so long as his/her party holds the most seats for a majority/minority Government and he/she retains the confidence of Parliament
7. Determines foreign/defense policy - Though not the head of state or commander in chief, the PM is in charge of Canada's international relations and the Canadian Forces' missions at home and abroad. Given current the increase of globalization and security threats, this has entrenched the PM's power in this role
8. "Presidentialization" of the office - Originally the PM was considered a "first among equals" that didn't outshine the head of state. Over the past fifty years, however, Canada and other parliamentary systems have centralized and increased the powers of the PM at the expense of weakening the Cabinet and Parliament

i'm no longer shocked by way of Barack Hussein Obama's no longer being honest on NAFTA situation, he isn't honest approximately his Muslim background and background. Why is he hiding his center call, his Islamic background? i desire all individuals awaken to the reality in the previous it fairly is purely too overdue. Why take a huge risk on the unknown like Obama, as a replace of the tried and examined leaders like Hillary Clinton or McCain? Obama is eloquent, a slick talker like many glib-tongued politicians. we ought to continually no longer choose a frontrunner by way of his candy promises and words, yet by way of his actual movements and by way of his song record of genuinely experience. we ought to continually no longer vote for a "sense reliable" speaker, yet we ought to continually vote for reliability, experience, national protection... thank you for reminding us approximately this lie of Barack Hussein Obama approximately NAFTA and Canada. that's purely the top of the iceberg of white lies in the back of this Obama political campaign? thank you!
