Turn off to Everglades City -- have lunch at the Rod & Gun Club verandah overlooking the water. continue down to the fishing village of Chokoloskee
If you go early in the morning in winter there are a couple of rookeries along the side of the road: See birds in trees; gators (sometimes LOTS of 'em) in the water.
