Newly qualified or older and experienced?

Just a little straw poll on how people feel about this. Is it better to have someone trained in all the modern methods of doing things or perhaps someone whose seen and experienced it before. Mention your job and your view please

I'd go for experience unless it was a trainee position. It is tempting when newly qualified to believe effectiveness is about up-to-date knowledge and razor sharp skill whereas, out in the world of business and public service, it is far more about people and relationships. Recent qualifications put a lot of facts at your fingertips while experience knows where to find the facts when needed and also when facts are not enough. I suppose it's about the difference between knowledge and wisdom. My interests are in the area of commercial law and international collaborative R&D.
