Robert,
1) Name your home page file as index.html. Other names are also allowed, but this makes it easy.
2) Take help from your hosting provider to point your A records (one of the DNS records) to your hosting server.
3) Create ftp username and password for your hosting account (option should be available in your hosting control panel. Where exactly this option would be located is difficult to answer as it depends ont he hosting control panel. Again, take help from your hosting provider, if you cannot figure out.
4) Ask your hosting provider which is the document root directory that the files should be uploaded.
5) Use an ftp tool like filezilla to upload your files.
That's all! Your site would be live for people to browser.
Do read your hosting provider's 'help' section. A lot of questions would generally be answered there. Else, contact their customer support.

Use the FTP client to upload your files on the remote server, you would need username and password to connect through ftp server that is provided you by hosting company. Use File Zilla ftp client that is free.
Then login to your hosting account by putting login details eg. ftp server address, ftp username, ftp password.
Upload all files to public_html directory. Your site will be up and running.
