Is anyone else tired of negative attitudes?

I look at the questions and answers in this section on a regular basis and I'm getting really tired of people saying that South Africa is a hell hole, that it's dangerous, that there's no hope.

Is there anyone out there that believes that this country has potential?

Are there any patriots out there, that love South Africa and want to do whatever it takes to make this beautiful country of ours better?

Or is everyone happy to just sit back and complain about how bad things are? Is everyone waiting for someone else to fix things?

South Africa as such is a beautiful country. The hell hole was and is still created by humans.

No I do not think everyone is waiting for someone else to fix things. There are unfortunately things

that you cannot fix yourself and rely on other people to do for you.

This country has potential, but it depends on all the people to make it work and not only

    a few individuals.

The only potential it will EVER GET is if the ANC get out of power. That doesn't look like it's going to happen soon unless there's some big revolt. If the ANC doesn't get out of power, South Africa will be the next Zimbasket case, I mean Zimbankrupt, no, no, Zimbabwe. LOL.

Look and listen to what JZ says.

Look and listen to what Julius Malema says.

Look and listen to what all our politicians are saying.

Look at how the government does not respect the separation between legislature and the courts. Look at who they appoint to head the NPA and to act as judges.

Look at the high levels of corruption.

Look how friendly they are with Mugabe, Castro, Qaddafi etc

Look at how they waste our tax money. Look at the cars they drive. The functions they hold.

Look at the high levels of crime.

Look at the policies of affirmative action and BEE which exclude a large portion of the population from the economy exclusively on the basis of race.

Switch off your DSTV for a week and watch the propaganda on SABC.

    Try reporting a crime.

Ask Telkom to assist you with a problem.

Look at how minivan taxis break the law with impunity.

Even the UK does not want us. We now need visas to visit.

Who is going to fix things? Nobody, because nobody can.

Now you tell me, what have we got to be positive about?

Cape Town - Government under President Jacob Zuma has "frittered away" nearly R4bn on "self-indulgent purchases" since the start of his administration, the Democratic Alliance claimed on Monday.

Briefing the media at the re-launch of her party's Wasteful Expenditure Monitor - now rebranded as the Every Rand Counts Campaign - DA national spokesperson Lindiwe Mazibuko said her party had identified "wasteful and fruitless expenditure" across seven "key" categories.

"Our calculations reveal nearly R4bn misspent on self-indulgent purchases by government members who have chosen to serve themselves rather than the people."

But responding to a question, she said the exact figure of R3 828 810,000 was actually the "entire total" spent by government across the seven categories.

    Hotel stays, cars, entertainment

The categories included: advertising; hotel stays and property renovations; vehicles purchased for politicians; entertainment; tickets for sporting events; items of wasteful expenditure identified in financial audits; and "other waste".

Asked how much of the R3.8bn spending was unavoidable and justifiable - given that politicians needed vehicles, and spending on hotel stays, entertainment and property renovations were often legitimate expenses of government - Mazibuko said she could not give a figure.

"I can't do that because there are some departments that are bigger culprits than others. And there are some ministers who are bigger culprits than others... Of the people we have been able to identify, this is how much has been spent.

"The right answer is that wasteful expenditure should be a drop in the ocean... If we were to try and identify a reasonable sum for each government department to spend, it would have to go category by category.

"And things like hotels and parties, there should be no spending on those things - it's not necessary," she said.

    'Other waste'

The biggest part of the R3.8bn, an amount of almost R2.9bn, comes from the DA's "other waste" category, which, according to the party, includes "Cuban debt-forgiveness and money to Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe".

Asked how much of this total was actual waste by a ministry, Mazibuko said it was "about a third".

Among other things, the DA is calling for government to restrict what it calls excessive spending.

Its campaign, the third time the party has released such figures since July 2009, is also being launched online at www.everyrandcounts.org.

Yip, look at some of the resolved questions in the SA section, not everyone all the time, you get your ups and downs from time to time but the rest of the time it is all marshmallows, Martians and travel tips and then the occasional killing until you die type of questions and so on.

If being patriotic means allowing theft of state wealth and only having positive things to say about it

    then yes we are negative.
