any small bike 250cc - 450cc is good for a beginner standard bikes are easier and more comfortable then a sport bike.. i highly recommend you take a motorcycle safety foundation course. best money you will ever spend. get a used bike so when you drop it wont really matter. it doesn't have to be pretty it just had to run and be something you can learn comfortably on even a 250cc bike will hit highway speeds. it will give you time to figure out what you want for a 2nd bike. nobody keeps there first one for long.

Dude! The best bike to learn on is a dirt bike. In a perfect world this where you would start. They're light easy to handle and have less items to break when you drop it as you sometimes will when you're learning to ride. The wrx in my opinion is a step in the right direction though I don't know much about them. It would be a quick and fun bike to ride for sure. I believe the wrx would have more power than the Ninja 250 and handle better for the beginner. You will get tired of the Ninja very soon and be ready for a larger bike as it wouldn't take you long to get used to the limited power the 250. Same might happen with the wrx but in my opinion not as soon and there may be performance parts for the wrx when that happens. Another option would be to get a good cheap used dirt bike or small street bike to learn on and sell once you have some experience under your belt and have a better idea what you would like to ride and could move up to something a little larger that you wouldn't tire of right away. Especially since you looking at street oriented bikes. Good Luck

The ninja 250 is a good choice for a beginner. Other choices are, Honda CBR250R or Rebel, Yamaha 250 v-star, Suzuki TU250 or GZ250, The buel blast would also make a nice choice. Any dual sport up to about 400cc as they have good low end torque for the beginner. It is best to look for a used bike for your first. If you take care of it you can resell it in a year or two for a few hundred less that what you bought it for.

I would simply suggest that you avoid considering a motorcycle that is too heavy for you to lift back up if it fell on its side. And make sure the seat height allows you to place both feet comfortably on the ground.

A BUELL BLAST was built to be a good beginner bike, and though they went out of production in 2009 you might pick one up used that is decent.
