    hehe, sounds like you got hit by a virus or a nasty peice of code. bootmgr is a typical file deleted by viruses/malicious programs that causes this error.

    Simply you will need to put your origional windows disk in and reinsert your bootmgr file =D

    lol, I do this to people I dont like. So start worrying someone doesnt like you or you are being targeted......Or you deleted it yourself which is highly unlikely.

    Or just reformat your PC!. lol. Which is the goal of this type of Attack.

    this sounds like an outbreak that nested interior the bootsector or in basic terms a corrupt harddrive. whilst that is an old laptop, you have a situation. whilst that is new, attempt to enable is be regarded at from an expert.

    You can try fixboot from your XP disk, or just repair Windows http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
