How do I fix lagg on my ps3 while my brother is on netflix?

Ok so let me detail my situation. I have a D-link router connecting my ps3 and computer through ethernet cables. I am an online gamer and my brother likes watching movies on Netflix in his computer. Everytime he watches them, I start getting lagg. Im fine whenever he isn't on the computer tho. I want to know what I can do to solve my lagg issue. I obviously know whats causing it but I want to know why. I have a 12 MBPS internet speed. If I need faster internet,I would like to know how many MBPS I need and what internet company you recommend. I need something cheap.I currently have COX which charges around $60 for 25 MBPS. I live in san diego CA so I have limited options. Please help thanks.

12 meg internet is plenty, its more than likely the router acting as a bottleneck. I had the same problems.

Buy a gaming router like the d link gamerlounge, it reconizes which port is being used for gaming and makes that priority. (something to do with being able to reconize gaming packets and whatnot)anyways i bought 1 and I get no lag, i have 360,ps3 and 2 pcs all wired up and no lag. My gf can play LBP on the ps3 or do her stupid little facebook games while I shoot people lag free...

This is the one I bought, its not wireless but they do sell wireless routers if ur set up that way

PS I read this in the reviews and I thought this would answer your question a little more..

"I see too many people buying routers for gaming without having the understanding of what is needed in a router. Many of the routers out there do not support enough sessions. Online games stream their data out in many small bandwidth sessions, this is extremely hard on many routers, they may be able to handle the bandwidth but can't handle the sessions. This overloads the memory of the router and results in frequent disconnnects from a game. Add to this voice and you can see how this can become an issue. When you buy the lower end routers its pot luck if it will work. This baby on the other hand, it'll take anything I can throw at it from home. 4 online games at once with voice also, and not a hiccup."

And there you have it.. BUY IT!!

PSS also 25 meg internet is a pretty good deal, i currently pay $50 a month for 16meg

I've also noticed this issue and it's definitely something that changed very recently. An update from their side is most likely as it seems to be hitting different regions in waves. I actually have a 60Mb internet connection and receive an incredibly fast load time for this new data hog of a menu but it still seems like an incredible waste of time... I'm not real sure why they would take away such a useful function from the ps3 menu... Quite frankly I've considered the option of streaming from the XBox 360 and the Wii and chose the PS3 option because not only was it free like the Wii, but it was so much more functional... I'll just suspend my account for a couple months and give them time to fix their mistake... If not I suppose it's time to just cancel it altogether... If it weren't for the streaming service I wouldn't subscribe anyways... So thanks Netflix... You may have just saved me $8 a month!
