College and the National Guard?
If I were to start college, then sign up for the national guard, would I have to miss college to go to basic training and AIT for MOS training? or would I go in the summer?
I won't be 18 till september, and I start college in August so I can only join after I start school.
So would I be able to go to basic during the summer and AIT?
what if my mos was Infantry, I know for active duty they have OSUT, same for National Guard?
and I once I go to MEPS and swear in, I can start drilling with my unit right, even though I havent gone to basic yet?
@yeahboy - I wanted to a lot of things. In the 9th and 10th grade, I wanted to be a pilot, then I was looking at all the SOF stuff later one. Now im older, and gonna be on my own, I understand that somethings aren't just going to happen for me. its reality. I love this country, and want to serve it. If I don't join the military, then I will hopefully make it in some sort of law enforcement. I am going too college so I can better prepare myself for more options in law enforcement. I was pretty close to going active duty, but my parents said I should get a little college in at least. So I will do that. If I do go to college, I still want to serve somehow, thats why I asked about the guard. I'd still join without college assistance.

I originally joined the national guard in college as 11B and didn't miss any school. You start drilling and getting paid right away, then do OSUT in two summers. It's called the split-op program
You can join if you are 17 and go to basic this summer
You probably won't drill with your unit until after you finish OSUT, you'll probably drill with a training unit that gets you ready for basic
Keep in mind you become deplorable after you finish OSUT unless you join ROTC

Dude how can anyone take you seriously. Didn't you wanna become a Ranger? Now you wanna go to the Nasty Guard you serious. Sounds to me your joining to collect your college money after you ETS. Well thank god you no longer wanna be a Ranger.

No, you must go through basic. Depends on your ship out date. Work it out with your recruiter.
