Acer Aspire 5532 Laptop powers on but does not boot up?

Anyone know if this is a motherboard problem or if I can flash the bios (need help on how to do that) to revive it? It has display lights and fans work, just get a black screen.

Update:

Hey Scott, already tried that. Dave, obviously its beyond my capability, but thanks for your response.

Remove the charger and battery. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Replug everything back in and try again. If it doesn't work, I would also suggest you take it into a store for them to take a look at it.

Before you take it into a store, back up your files. Many people have gotten their hard drives erased without permission which sucks because you have important things on there. You can back up your hard drive with a device known as an IDE/SATA to USB Adapter (google "BT-300 topmicrousa"). This device works great since you are able to back up files fast and efficiently. Its also quite durable. This is a good device for you because you are able to access the hard drive's files without having to go through the operating system. Just because the operating system doesn't load doesn't mean the files are gone.

Back up the files and take it in. Or you can try reformatting after the back up, that also works most of the time.

    Best of luck.

How you plan on flashing a bios when you can't even boot up? Take it to a shop. It's beyond your capabilities if you have to ask.
