is hypertension actually defined as a disease?
I need to know if I can write about hypertension in my essay as a disease. Is there any official source/body that would be able to tell me certainly if hypertension is classed as an actual disease.
Thank you!

It's generally referred to as more of a disorder than disease, but the line between the two is a bit blurry.
I've just done a project on hypertension, thought you might find one of the sites I used helpful:

If you've got a decent library then Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine is excellent.

Limit your topic to hypertensive crisis, or to surgically correctable hypertension, and you'll get few arguments. But I think you have a valid concern: hypertension in general is just a statistical risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. Statistical risks aren't really diseases.

if its chronic- then maybe
if not then its just a syndrome
